Osiris Ordaz, one of Promise Community Health Center’s mental health therapists, began working at Promise in October of 2021.
Osiris received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Art from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. She then went on to get a degree in Art Therapy: Counseling from Adler University in Chicago, Illinois. Before starting at Promise, Osiris interned as an Art Therapist in the Student Health and Wellness department at North Park University in Chicago. She was in this role during the 2019-2020 school year which allowed her to provide help to college students during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her experience during the internship allowed her to gain more passion for building connections by helping others make connections of their own. In her words, “Humans need humans.” This drew her to the mental health therapist role because of Promise’s holistic perspective and passion to provide a well-rounded approach to healthcare through departmental collaboration.
Some of the mental health services Osiris offers as a holistic and trauma-informed practitioner are EMDR, CBT, Adlerian, and Psychoeducation therapy. She also offers Art therapy, Telehealth sessions, family and couple’s therapy, and unique eclectic treatment plans based on a patient’s needs. Her role includes collaboration with the other therapists in the mental health department. Their collaboration is vital to collect new directive ideas and think outside the box to provide the best care for patients. She also works with Promise Social Worker, Kailee Jenness, the Nurse Health Coaches, Amanda Rickard and Lorilyn Van Dyke, and Psych Nurse Practitioner, Emily Leinen, to provide support in other areas of the patient’s life.
A part of her role that Osiris is most passionate about is patient access. While patient access tends to focus on financial, language, and other barriers, Osiris believes it should not end there. In her practice, she tries her best to work alongside community organizations, schools, and companies to decrease the stigma around mental health, learn about community needs, and educate herself on how to improve her overall patient care. She says Promise has encouraged her in this goal and assists her in the endeavor.

Osiris would like Promise patients to know that the mental health team cares deeply about them and their journey. The work that is done in the mental health therapist’s office is hard, they will be with you during your most difficult moments and will provide you with the service you need. The mental health therapists intentionally allow patients to guide their care with what works best for them and support them in their diverse needs. Osiris says, “Therapy is not a mystical thing – it is based on science! Knowledge is power – informing patients through every step of the process so they are aware of the work we are doing and why is one of my favorite steps in therapy.” Osiris is passionate about destigmatizing mental health care, enabling her patients to fully understand themselves, and helping them reach their goals.
As a mental health therapist, Osiris meets with patients and helps them find a type of therapy that will work best for them and their goals. Osiris is excited to play a role in Promise’s new mental health campaign, HERE FOR EVERY STEP.
Promise Community Health Center Mental Health Team
Promise Community Health Center offers a range of mental health services. Our mental health team collaborates with our patients to assess current coping skills, address emotional needs and work through lifelong patterns. These services are available on-site and by Telehealth by our mental health department.
Promise Community Health Center is proud to provide bilingual mental health therapy in northwest Iowa. Our bilingual therapist can provide mental health services in both English and Spanish. Promise also provides our patients with a mental health interpreter who is qualified to interpret into Spanish for Spanish speaking mental health patients. Our goal is to make sure that our patients are able to do mental health therapy in the language they feel most comfortable speaking. We are happy to have bilingual mental health therapists and counselors and a mental health interpreter to provide accessible and affordable bilingual therapy in Northwest Iowa.
