Promise Community Health Center was excited to partner with Sioux Center Community High School to help teach a classroom full of kids about all things Promise!
The Promise team had the privilege of spending time with Sioux Center High School students to teach them about Promise Community Health Center and career planning. The students are part of a class called Classroom to Careers. The goal of this class is to introduce kids to different businesses and occupations, especially if the students are not sure what they want to do after high school.
Over the course of two weeks, various departments were able to share with the students.
The Promise Marketing Team talking about marketing, brands, and specific challenges that Promise faces with marketing to people with different backgrounds, languages and communities. The students had great questions and thought outside the box when coming up with their favorite branding and marketing ideas. The Dental Team taught the students about certification and schooling for Dental Assistants. They also focused on life skills needed in the workforce – such as being patient, friendly and willing to be part of a team. A Promise Panel, with staff from various departments, answered questions from the class. The panel talked about applying for a job, answering interview questions, and how to get more training for your job.
Michelle and Jessica shared their background stories and passion for working with patients at Promise. The students were curious to find out what a typical day at Promise looked like for a financial counselor and translation coordinator. Jess, a Promise Nurse and Stefanie, a Medical Assistant answered questions about pursuing a career in the medical field. They played a fun Jeopardy game with medical terms. Kara, Finance Specialist, shared with the class all about her position at Promise and careers in finance and accounting. She ended the class by putting on a lively 10-key calculator race for the students.
The Classroom to Careers class was also given a tour of the newly expanded and renovated Promise. The students were surprised by the amount of space, services, and positions available at Promise.
The Promise Community Health Center staff was excited to get to know the students more and share with them information about Promise, jobs in the medical field and life skills they will need to get good jobs after high school.
