DENTAL EMERGENCIES
A dental emergency is an issue involving the teeth and supporting tissues that is of high importance to be treated by a dental professional. Dental emergencies do not always involve pain, although this is a common signal that something needs to be looked at. Promise Community Health Center Dental Office has designated walk-in times for tooth pain, mouth emergencies or other dental needs. Times for these walk-in dental appointments vary on the day, and they are first come first serve.
Some examples of dental emergencies include but are not limited to:
- tooth fracture
- oral infection
- mouth pain
If you do have a dental emergency call Promise Community Health Center to talk with our dental coordinator. They will schedule a walk-in appointment if one is available with our local dentist. Call 712-722-1700 as soon as possible!

DENTAL DEEP CLEANINGS
Our Promise Community Health Center dental hygienist is able to perform dental teeth cleaning and also dental deep cleanings. A deep cleaning goes below the surface of the gum to clean periodontal pockets where bacteria hide. For patients with early stages of periodontal disease, tartar builds up under the gums. The only way to remove this buildup is by a deep cleaning.
If you are needing a dental cleaning, our dental lab technicians and dental hygienist are ready to see you care@promisechc.org or call 712-722-1700.
DENTAL SEALANTS
Our Promise Community Health Center dental care team recommend dental sealants for children ages 6 to 12 years of age. Sealants are a dental treatment intended to prevent tooth decay. Teeth naturally have pits and grooves on their biting surfaces which are vulnerable to tooth decay. Food and bacteria stick in these hard-to-clean areas. Dental sealants are materials placed in these pits and fissures to create a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. Dental sealants are usually placed as soon as the adult molar teeth come through.
Our Promise dental care team is ready to check your children’s teeth. Contact Promise today at care@promisechc.org or call 712-722-1700.
DENTAL SILVER DIAMINE FLUORIDE (SDF)
Silver Diamine Fluoride or SDF is an injection-free way of stopping the progression of cavities. Promise Community Health Center typically uses this for children ages 0-5 years as a treatment on cavities, until the child is ready for regular fillings. Silver Diamine Fluoride is an FDA-approved antibiotic liquid clinically applied to control active dental cavities and prevent further progression of disease.
Treatment with Silver Diamine Fluoride will not eliminate the need for restorative dentistry to repair function or aesthetics, but has been effective at prevention of further decay. Contact Promise for more information today care@promisechc.org or call 712-722-1700.
SAVING FOR SMILES DENTAL PROGRAM
Promise Community Health has several patients who simply cannot pay the co-pay fee for a dental appointment. Promise has a Saving for Smiles Dental Fund that is used to help kids and families pay this co-pay as well as get further dental care.
Promise partners with our local Kiwanis club as well as other local businesses and families who contribute to this fund to make dental care possibly for every child!
