At Promise Community Health Center, the commitment to the community’s access to healthcare is exemplified by employees who embrace different roles during their time here. Ian Wiersma, who started his career at Promise CHC as a Medical Assistant/Interpreter a year and a half ago, now steps into a new role as a Transportation Coordinator!
Before joining the Promise team, Ian attended Northwestern College, studying Spanish-English Translation and Interpretation while navigating challenging Pre-Med studies. The combination of bilingualism and dedication to healthcare drew him towards Promise, where he found not only a professional environment but also a super friendly work culture.
The prospect of utilizing both majors in the same place was a compelling factor in choosing Promise as his workplace. As a Medical Assistant/Interpreter, his initial role involved bridging communication gaps and ensuring patients received care in their native language. The opportunity to make a meaningful impact on diverse patients made Promise an ideal fit for Ian.
I am excited to continue to serve our community in many different ways and be able to continue to provide affordable health care to those who need it.– Ian Wiersma, Transportation Coordinator
The new Transportation Coordinator role includes going the extra mile—quite literally—to pick up patients struggling to reach their appointments at Promise Community Health Center. It’s a role that extends beyond the traditional healthcare setting, allowing him to directly contribute to breaking down barriers that limit access to healthcare services.
While he continues to fulfill Medical Assistant duties and provide interpretation services, the addition of transportation coordination introduces a different element to their responsibilities. As he steps into his new role, Ian is eager to navigate new paths ensuring that quality healthcare remains accessible to all!
