Midwives are highly-trained health care professionals who provide many health care options for women. Our Certified Nurse Midwives offer services including fertility counseling, birth control counseling, gynecologic exams, breast exams, prenatal care, home-birth delivery, postpartum care and more. Here at Promise, we are proud to be able to provide multiple options to fit women’s needs and wants throughout their pregnancy journey.
Prenatal Care
Did you know that our Promise midwives can help you with a prenatal plan that works best for you and your family and fits just what you envision your labor to look like. If a home birth is not a birth plan you are envisioning our midwives can partner with you for all your prenatal care and provide you with guidance for your birthing and labor plan.
Austin and Shalee Hofman, from Sioux Center, Iowa, had their son Kezden Jon Laroy on March 20, 2021 at 1:51 pm. Kezden weighed 6 lbs 4 oz, and was 17.5 inches long.
The Hofman family received all their prenatal care from the OB Team at Promise Community Health Center including Certified Midwife Belinda Lassen and nurse Erica Robertson plus other members of the team. The family had a hospital birth at Avera in Sioux Falls.
The Hofman family appreciated the expertise of the Promise OB team as they moved through their pregnancy journey. With being first time parents Shalee and Austin had lots of questions, the Promise OB team was there to answer every one. Shalee and Austin decided they were not comfortable with a home birth but still chose to get all their prenatal care from the Promise Midwives because of all of the personal care, patience and expert care they provided. Through much consideration and loving their current care situation, the Hofmans found a midwife at Avera that they were comfortable with and the transition of care went seamlessly as Promise worked with the Avera Midwife team (who did some of their clinical hours with Belinda!).
When complications arose with their pregnancy, Austin and Shalee were thankful to have the expertise of Belinda and the OB team to help them with the next steps and to continue to provide them with great care through those complications. Before, during, and after labor the Promise OB team was checking in with texts making sure the Hofmans were supported and encouraged during the whole process. Shalee and Austin felt like they had the BEST teams, the OB Promise team and the Avera Midwives team behind them through the whole pregnancy and delivery of their son Kezden.
Loving the personal care the Promise OB Team provided, the Hofmans have also continued with medical care at Promise for their family. Of course stopping in the OB Department to say hello and show the team how Kezden is growing whenever they have appointments!
What would you tell other patients considering using Promise for their prenatal care?
Promise is a wonderful place to get prenatal care, even if you are not choosing a home birth, they have years of expertise and will help you through each step of your pregnancy journey. As you get closer to delivery the OB team will help you process next steps to partner with another facility for delivery. The OB team knows women and knows our bodies and how they work and we loved the way they encouraged us through each phase of pregnancy and delivery. They offer top-notch care and there is no other team we would choose to be such a huge part of our family’s life.
