Shelbee and Dan received their prenatal care for Calvin Todd from Certified Nurse Midwife Kari Ney at Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, Iowa, and OB Nurse Kris Tinklenberg part of the home birth team from Promise.
The Ropte family opened their home for Calvin’s home birth in Struble, Iowa. Certified Nurse Midwife Kari Ney and OB Nurse Kris Tinklenberg helped deliver Calvin Todd during the birth at their home.
Mr. Calvin was welcomed into the family by 5 big brothers who were so excited to meet him!

Shelbee appreciated feeling heard and not being rushed at all her prenatal appointments at Promise. During the labor and delivery of Calvin she appreciated being supported by Midwife Kari Ney and Nurse Kris Tinklenberg. Having Calvin in her home was exactly what she wanted. She was thrilled to have a more comfortable and peaceful birth experience in her own home than in a hospital.

Promise Community Health Center is the only facility in the northwest Iowa area that offers the opportunity to have an assisted birth in your home with Certified Nurse Midwives. Our Midwives are highly trained and have over 40+ years of combined birthing experience. What do you want your birth experience to look like? Our providers take the time to respectfully explore that question. Patients must be located within 75 miles of Sioux Center, have a low-risk pregnancy, no history of cesarean section and no major medical history.
