Raylen Charles, son of Rod and Liza of Cherokee, IA, was born 6:57 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2019, in their home, weighing 8 pounds and measuring 21 inches. He has three siblings, Skyler, 14; Rowen, 5; and Anna, 3.
Certified nurse midwife Belinda Lassen of Promise Community Health Center of Sioux Center, IA, provided the prenatal care for the family throughout the pregnancy and attended the home birth.
“My family and I have felt very cared for through the pregnancy, birth and post-birth process,” Liza said. “Being in the comfort of our home has proven to aid in the smooth delivery — optimal health for myself while healing as well as our baby boy who is very content. I attest this all to the calm and gentle nature of home birth and that great caregivers offer.”

Patients must be located within 75 miles of Sioux Center, have a low-risk pregnancy, no history of cesarean section and no major medical history.
