FREE Breast and Cervical Cancer Screenings Available for Eligible Women Through the Care for Yourself Program
Promise Community Health Center is committed to making preventive care accessible for everyone. Through the Iowa Care for Yourself (CFY) program, eligible women can receive free or low-cost breast and cervical cancer screenings — helping remove financial barriers and supporting early detection.
The Care for Yourself program is designed for Iowa residents ages 21–64 who are uninsured or underinsured and meet income guidelines. Regular screenings can detect cancer early, when it is most treatable, and provide peace of mind for you and your loved ones.
Services covered by the Care for Yourself program include:
- Office visits related to breast and cervical cancer screening
- Clinical breast exams and mammograms (as recommended by your provider)
- Pelvic exams, Pap tests, and HPV testing
- Blood pressure measurements, height, and weight
- Tobacco cessation referrals
- Limited diagnostic testing if screening results require follow-up
- Patient navigation and referrals for pre-cancer or cancer treatment
While the program covers many essential preventive services, it does not pay for cancer treatment or services unrelated to breast and cervical cancer screening. If a diagnosis occurs, program or Medicaid staff will help review your eligibility for treatment resources and guide you toward the best options available.
Who is eligible?
You may qualify if you:
- Are between the ages of 21 and 64
- Are an Iowa resident
- Have a monthly income within program guidelines (for example, $3,260 or less for a single-person household, with higher limits for larger households)
- Are uninsured or underinsured
