Job Summary: The Promise CHC Homebirth Nurse provides nursing care to patients and families in accordance with the health care plan, policies, procedures, and protocols established by Promise.

SALARY RANGE: Hourly Position
REPORTS TO: Women’s Health Coordinator/Director of Clinical Services
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Embodies the mission of Promise and provides health care for patients in accordance with Promise standards and policies.
- Performs data collection, reviews patient health history with midwife, and honors patient confidentiality 100% of the time.
- Displays competency of skills by attending at least two births in a calendar year.
- Functions as a member of the healthcare team and participates in team meetings when indicated.
- Assists with equipment set up, assess the home for safety, and all other duties listed on “Homebirth Nurse Duties” form.
- Assists with patient monitoring before and after delivery, as indicated.
- Remains calm and performs effectively during stress, competent in OB emergencies, and readily anticipates the need for intervention.
- Administers medications when needed and has competent understanding of medication to be used in labor and postpartum period.
- Assists with all clean up, postpartum education, breastfeeding education, and remains in the home for 3-4 hours postpartum or as determined by midwife.
- Conducts postpartum visits at 24-48 hours post birth with the assistance of the midwife via telehealth, when directed. This will be on an as needed basis and discussed with midwife.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Proficient in NRP and newborn cares.
- Proficient in IV start and administering of medication by IV, IM, and oral route
- BLS certification.
- Must have the ability to work as a team member and establish effective relationships with patients and staff.
- Communications professionally in all situations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- 1-2 years labor and delivery nursing experience
- Current license to practice nursing in the state of Iowa
- Targeted courses may be available to bridge any gaps in expertise
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand for long periods of time, bend and squat. Employee is required to have the ability to talk, hear, write, read small print, and to lift up to 50 pounds.
