Job Summary: The Promise Clinic Nurse provides nursing care to patients and families in accordance with the health care plan, policies, procedures and protocols established by Promise.
PART TIME – 20 HOURS/WEEK, W, TH, F & Home births
SALARY RANGE: Hourly Position
REPORTS TO: OB Manager
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Greets and escorts patients and families to exam rooms for provider visits.
2. Administers meds when needed and performs provider-ordered tests.
3. Anticipates and prepares exam room for provider(s) when needed, capturing teachable moments wherever and whenever possible.
4. Collaborates with members of the health care team/patient/family to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate an interdisciplinary plan of care, revising the plan according to changes inpatient status.
5. Reviews health history with a focus on environment, self-care and home/community needs. Also, before arriving at patient home for birth to assess patient needs and anticipate potential health emergencies.
6. Assess the home for potential safety risks for patient’s movement, set-up equipment upon arrival, and assist with patient monitoring by taking vital signs on mom at least every 4 hours and record on labor summary. Serves in the role of pt. advocate/labor coach/labor resource.
7. Seeks opportunities to promote health and wellness with patient education and screening tools. (i.e. Ages and Stages, Depression screening).
8. Conduct and monitor at least (3) sets of vital signs (every thirty minutes or more often as needed) for each patient; while ensuring comfort for mom after delivery and assisting with breastfeeding.
9. Assist with all clean-up, postpartum education and remain at the home 3-4 hours postpartum
10. Articulates the mission of PCHC and seeks opportunities to promote the center through outreach.
11. Understands FQHC UDS performance measures and importance of PCHC meeting these measures.
12. Assists with orientation and education of new employees, ensuring their understanding of health center standards and performance measures.
13. Performs other job duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Current RN license to practice Nursing in the state of Iowa
• One to two years of labor and delivery nursing experience preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand for long periods of time.
