The school-based therapy program was designed to provide students with convenient access to mental health care right where they learn. Launched last year at Sioux Center High School, the program has expanded, now reaching five additional schools: Hawarden ElementaryIreton ElementarySioux Center Christian SchoolKinsey Elementary in Sioux Center, and Rock Valley schools.

Accessing therapy through the program is simple and collaborative. Parents or guardians interested in therapy for their child can connect with their school counselor or contact Promise Community Health Center directly. Students can also take the initiative to speak with their school counselor, who will guide them through the referral process. New patient forms and program details are readily available at participating schools. Once connected, Promise’s scheduling team will reach out to arrange the first appointment, answer questions, and explain the process.

School-based therapy functions just like traditional therapy but is seamlessly integrated into the school day. Each school provides a private space where students can meet with a licensed therapist. The school counselor works with the therapist to schedule sessions that minimize disruptions to the student’s academic routine.

The therapy itself is tailored to each student’s needs, addressing challenges like stress, anxiety, or trauma to improve overall well-being and prepare students for the future. From traditional talk therapy to strategies for coping with life’s ups and downs.

If your child’s school participates in the Promise School-Based Therapy Program, we encourage you to explore this resource. Let’s work together to ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive—both inside and outside the classroom. Talk to your school guidance counselors or call 722-1700 for more information.
