The Medical Team at Promise Community Health Center wants patients and communities to know that Colorectal Cancer is one of the few cancers that can be prevented through screening! Call 712-722-1700 today to talk with a Promise provider.
In 2021 Promise focused a lot of attention on Colorectal Cancer Screening through additional outreach, grant funding, and quality improvement projects. Through this work, Promise was able to reach a 62% screening rate for patients age 50-75. Promise teams also gave 101 $25 gift cards to patients to reduce barriers for this screening.
INFO ABOUT COLON POLYPS
- A polyp is a small clump of cells on the lining of the colon. Most colon polyps are harmless. Some colon polyps can develop into colorectal cancer, often fatal when found in its later stages.
- Not all polyps turn into cancer, but all cancers start as polyps.
- Because colon polyps do not usually cause symptoms, it is important to have regular colorectal screenings such as a colonoscopy.
- Remember: screening by colonoscopy with polyp removal prevents colorectal cancer before it can start.
NO MORE EXCUSES
- Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the US when men and women are combined.
- Colorectal cancer does not always cause symptoms.
- Colorectal cancer is preventable and when caught early, treatments are more successful.
- Most health insurance plans cover screening colonoscopy.
- Talk to your medical provider about when you should get screened.
