Hannah and Scott received their prenatal care for Mr. Emmett from Certified Nurse Midwives Kari Ney and Audra De Groot at Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center, Iowa, and OB Nurse Kris Tinklenberg part of the home birth team from Promise.
The Bird family opened their home for Emmett’s home birth in Beresford, South Dakota. Certified Nurse Midwives Kari Ney and Audra De Groot and OB Nurse Kris Tinklenberg helped deliver Emmett Charles during the birth at their home.
Emmett Charles was welcomed into the family by proud big sisters, Audrey (5) and Annie (3)!
The Bird Family Promise Experience.
At their prenatal checkups Hannah and Scott received patient-centered care that was research-based. At each visit the Promise midwives and OB team were knowledgeable and so personable. During the labor and delivery at home the Bird’s felt supported and encouraged. Hannah especially appreciated how supportive the OB team was in letting her body do the work and labor on its own timeline. That was so special! Hannah also appreciated how Midwife Kari Ney checked in on her and baby Emmett often. They had a wonderful, family-centered experience delivering Emmett at home and for that the Bird family is so thankful!

Promise Community Health Center is the only facility in the northwest Iowa area that offers the opportunity to have an assisted birth in your home with Certified Nurse Midwives. Our Midwives are highly trained and have over 40+ years of combined birthing experience. What do you want your birth experience to look like? Our providers take the time to respectfully explore that question. Patients must be located within 75 miles of Sioux Center, have a low-risk pregnancy, no history of cesarean section and no major medical history.
