For the past eight years, she worked as a nurse in a hospital setting.

Now, she is excited about serving in a clinic setting as a new nurse at Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center.
“I love being a nurse,” Emily said. “My favorite part is the interaction and relationship that I am able to develop with patients. In the hospital setting, I enjoyed working in labor and delivery and seeing those sweet babies born. I also loved the quick thinking that the emergency room brings. The clinic setting gives a broader picture of one’s overall health and well-being. It will be interesting to learn more about this aspect of health care.”
Emily grew up in Platte, SD, and graduated from Dakota Christian High School in New Holland, SD, in 2004. She earned an associate’s degree in nursing at St. Luke’s College in Sioux City in 2008 and her bachelor’s of science degree in nursing at Dordt College in Sioux Center in 2009.
“I went to college in hopes of doing something in the medical field but was not sure exactly where I would fit in,” she said. “I was interested in dentistry and then eventually changed over to nursing. Nurses get such a wide range of knowledge and have such a variety of places that they can work.”
Emily worked at Sioux Center Health, 2007-16, and Orange City Area Health System, 2009-10. She liked the variety of the experiences in different departments every time that she worked – emergency, labor and delivery, postpartum and medical floor – but she’s looking forward to building a new knowledge base and becoming more involved with the continuity of patient care at Promise.
“I have enjoyed meeting my new coworkers and feel very welcomed here,” she said. “The environment is professional, yet relaxed and friendly, and I love it. I am so excited to start this new adventure and become familiar with the patients and providers here at Promise. This is a new scope of practice for me, but I look forward to learning the flow of the clinic setting.”

Emily Tuschen and her husband, Aaron, live in Sioux Center. They have three children, Kenley, 5; Brody, 4; and Evia, 3 months. In her free time, Emily enjoys playing with her kids, spending time with friends and drinking coffee.
