Promise Community Health Center is excited to announce a new partnership with Family Crisis Centers, designed to provide crucial support for victims of domestic violence and other crimes. This collaboration will bring a Victim Advocate on-site at Promise, offering a safe and accessible resource for patients who need assistance.
Working closely with Promise’s social worker, the Advocate will help safety plan for patients who are fearful of returning home, connecting them to options where they feel safe. The Advocate’s presence provides victims with support, guidance through the criminal justice system, and resources such as assistance with court proceedings, custody issues, victim compensation, and more.
Many people don’t realize the scope of services we offer. Victims can receive help to understand what to expect in court, explore their legal rights, and sort through complicated custody matters. The Advocate’s presence at Promise provides these services in a way that feels safe and accessible to survivors.– Victim Advocate
At the heart of this collaboration is the desire to create a stronger bridge between healthcare and local support systems. The Victim Advocate role aims to provide survivors with access to essential resources in a setting they trust—their medical provider’s office. Family Crisis Centers hopes this will help patients achieve the life they deserve, one where they feel safe, supported, and whole.
To ensure the partnership’s success, the Victim Advocate has been conducting training sessions with Promise staff. These trainings equip staff with the tools to identify victims of abuse or crime, make referrals, and understand the Advocate’s role in supporting survivors. This education helps Promise’s team offer effective care to patients in crisis, knowing they have another layer of support at their disposal.
Both organizations understand that financial concerns often prevent victims from seeking care or counseling. Through programs such as victim compensation, which can help cover medical expenses, counseling, and other essential services. Combined with Promise’s sliding fee scale and other financial assistance, these resources ensure that financial barriers don’t stand in the way of survivors getting the care and support they deserve.
