We are proud to announce that Kari Ney has been honored with the Outstanding Provider Award from the Iowa PCA! This award recognizes distinguished providers who exemplify excellence in clinical practice and demonstrate unwavering dedication to the health center mission and the patients they serve.
Kari joined Promise in 2013, bringing with her years of experience from Avera and Sioux Center Health. Promise’s mission to serve the underserved and her passion for helping others spoke to Kari’s heart. Recognizing her calling, she returned to school to become a Certified Nurse Midwife, taking on this role in 2019. Her dedication to walking alongside women during their healthcare journeys has allowed her to provide comprehensive prenatal care, women’s health services, newborn care, and home births for countless families.
Her commitment to women’s health extends beyond individual patient interactions. Kari plays a vital role on Promise’s Quality Improvement Committee, where she works to enhance prenatal care outcomes and has helped achieve consistently better birth weight outcomes compared to national benchmarks. In 2023 alone, Kari and the Women’s Health team served 899 women of child-bearing age and newborns, with many coming from marginalized backgrounds.
What sets Kari apart is her unwavering dedication to finding solutions for her patients, even when faced with obstacles. Her advocacy for improved care extends to collaborating with various teams within the health center to integrate services, ensuring that women receive comprehensive support throughout their pregnancies. Her recent efforts to secure privileges for midwife-attended births in the local hospital further exemplify her commitment to expanding access to quality care.
Her dedication to patients is always evident in comments from families. One patient states, “Kari has been with me through three beautiful home birth experiences, and her professional, yet deeply personal, touch in midwifery has made all the difference. She has a dedication to providing consistent support during pregnancy and delivery journeys and is worth gold! Her love for her patients shines through everything she does.”
For home births, Kari is on-call 24/7 and drives through all hours of the day and kinds of weather to reach patients when they need her. One patient shared, “The OB Team was able to make it through a full-blown South Dakota blizzard at 7am, and our baby arrived at 8:33 am!”
Kari’s colleagues at Promise Community Health Center recognize her as an inspiration and a model of excellence. One of her colleagues stated, “Kari is an exceptional provider who provides care that exemplifies what a community health center is all about. Her patients love her, and she is very dedicated to the work she does in Women’s Health Care.”
Kari Ney’s exemplary service, dedication to evidence-based practice, and unwavering commitment to improving patient care make her a deserving recipient of the Outstanding Provider Award. Her contributions have significantly enhanced the well-being of countless individuals in our community.
