Amy McAlpine, the Promise Community Health Center Chief Operating Office, is one of Northwest Iowa Review’s 20 under 40.
In July, Amy McAlpine moved into her fourth role she has held at Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center since starting there in 2015. Her current position is chief operating officer.
The Sioux Center resident credits the health center’s growth and its leaders for seeing within her the potential to take on new and changing roles within the organization.
“What I enjoy most is how many different kinds of things I get to work on and with all the different people I get to work with,” she said. “I love learning, and being part of a nonprofit provides amazing opportunities to learn a variety of things.”
Promise opened in 2008 and operates as a federally qualified health center offering medical care, prenatal care, mental health care, population health care, dental and vision care, nurse health coaching, clinical pharmacy and medications, lab services and immunizations, interpretation and translation, and various other services.
The organization’s mission to serve the whole community intrigued McAlpine when she and her husband, David, moved their family back to the community in late 2014. “The more I learned about the health center, how it was helping the community with such diverse services, I became interested in seeing what I could do to help,” she said. This led to her first role as an executive assistant, in 2015-16; data and compliance specialist, in 2016-20, and then as director of quality and program development before taking on her current position. As COO, she oversees and supports all of the departments in a variety of ways. McAlpine has valued each role. “It means so much to me to be able to work here at Promise,” McAlpine said. “I’m so proud of what we do for the community, proud of all of our staff and everything they do to support our patients and really make sure people get healthier. We have really big goals of making sure each person can have quality and affordable access to health care. We also have the big goal of being a place where people love to come to work and that they love the work that they do.”
