And they will have an opportunity to support a great cause.
That’s what Promise Community Health Center of Sioux Center promises for its eighth annual “An Evening of Promise” Celebration and Fundraiser. The event is slated for 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Terrace View Event Center in Sioux Center. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets will be on sale through Wednesday, Oct. 26.
“Everyone who attends will have a wonderful time,” said Derrick Vander Waal, public relations and development coordinator for Promise Community Health Center. “We will reflect on and celebrate the continued growth in Promise’s services to the community and will look ahead to where we’re going in the future. At the same time, the event is an opportunity for people to get away for an evening of food, fun and fellowship.”
The evening will feature:
- Entertainment by David Hira, a magician and comedian from Dallas, TX, with ties to northwest Iowa;
- Dinner catered by Blue Mountain Culinary Emporium of Orange City;
- Presentation of the Addink Community Service Award to Rod and Jayne Hofmeyer of rural Alton;
- Silent auction to support Promise.

Hira has traveled the world to perform at venues ranging from Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas to his most most recent venture on a cruise ship departing from Rome in the Mediterranean Sea, but he is just as excited to return to northwest Iowa where he has fond memories spending time as a child on his grandparent’s farm in the Rock Valley area. He said it will be a great privilege for him to present the people of northwest Iowa the gift of laughter.
He said his performance will be more than a magic show.
“If you love to laugh, love to be reminded of how wonderful the human spirit is, if joy and astonishment and the fun of a good surprise is something that you crave, then this show is for you,” Hira said. “We’ll have so much fun together that those who come will leave saying, ‘Wow, now this was worth my time. I’m so glad I came.’ You’ll be amazed.”
Blue Mountain Culinary Emporium, one of the most renowned restaurants in northwest Iowa, will serve as the caterer for the event. Blue Mountain will offer a choice of slow-roasted Angus roast beef and honey roasted pit ham for the main entrees. A field green salad, other delicious sides and a satisfying dessert also will be served.
The program will include the presentation of the fifth annual Addink Community Service Award to Rod and Jayne Hofmeyer of rural Alton. They founded the Zestos ministry that provides food, clothing and other necessities, and transitional housing to struggling people throughout northwest Iowa.

Natural Food Holdings of Sioux Center again will serve as the primary corporate sponsor for “An Evening of Promise.” Several other area businesses also are supporting the annual event as sponsors, including American State Bank; Premier Communications; Peoples Bank; Woods, Fuller, Shultz & Smith; Van Engelenhoven Agency; and Northwest Bank.
The event, which serves as Promise Community Health Center’s primary fundraiser every year, also will include a silent auction. Many great items – ranging from home-crafted or home-baked items to a yearlong, family membership to the Dordt College Recreation Center, a $400 value – will be auctioned off. A brief segment of live auction for a few select items also will be conducted.
“Our annual event offers people an occasion to support the work of Promise in the community,” Vander Waal said. “We are dedicated to providing accessible and affordable health care to everyone who needs it – no matter their income, ethnic background or life situation. We desire to reach underserved people and help them overcome whatever barriers they may face to health care that they need and deserve.”
