Michelle van Beek began working at Promise Community Health Center in April of 2018 as the Mental Health Coordinator and Interpreting Services Coordinator.
Michelle received her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish translation and interpretation from Northwestern College, as well as an interpreting certification from the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters. She then began working at Promise Community Health Center in April of 2018. She was drawn to Promise because of their commitment to providing services to community members regardless of language or income barriers. In her work, Michelle connects patients to mental health resources, both within and outside Promise. Michelle also interprets for patients in therapy sessions, which enables them to express themselves in the language the patient prefers.
Michelle works closely with Promise Community Health Center’s social worker, Kailee Jenness, to connect patients with outside resources and support. She also works with medical providers and financial counselors to answer patients’ questions and remove financial obstacles. Michelle plays a crucial role in Promise’s new mental health campaign, HERE FOR EVERY STEP.
Michelle wants Promise patients to know that each Promise provider on the mental health team is thoroughly invested in providing customized, high-quality care to each patient. On this, she says, “Mental health is a core part of life that affects people from every culture, community, and background. At Promise, our mental health team aims to walk with all people on their journey to better mental health and a better quality of life.”
