Kailee Jenness, Promise Community Health Center’s social worker, began working at Promise in August of 2021.
Kailee received her Bachelors of Social Work and Spanish degree from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. Before working at Promise, she worked with SafePlace in Le Mars, Iowa, but was drawn to Promise because of their commitment to serving the community. Specifically, Kailee appreciated that Promise worked to match employee demographics with client demographics – for example, roughly half of Promise clients are Spanish speakers, so Promise aims to have 50% of employees speak Spanish as well. Kailee also made note of Promise’s extended hours and sliding fee payment options, which help make services more accessible.
Kailee’s work includes offering temporary support to patients, such as those who are facing housing difficulty, limited access to resources, domestic violence, or trafficking. After meeting with patients, she continues to follow up with them and provide options for more long-term support.
Her favorite part of her job is working directly with her patients. On this, she says, “It is an honor that people trust me with their stories, trauma, and emotions. I have been amazed with the resilience and strength my patients have and they are the reason I love my job.” She is also thankful for the support she receives from her coworkers at Promise. Kailee notes that mental and physical health go hand in hand and that collaboration among Promise providers is vital to meeting patient needs.
It is an honor that people trust me with their stories, trauma, and emotions. I have been amazed with the resilience and strength my patients have and they are the reason I love my job.
Kailee wants Promise patients to know that the Promise staff is here to support them. She says, “We see you. At Promise you are more than just another patient. We recognize that you have your own individual needs and experiences. We are here to listen, support and empower you on your own unique journey.” Kailee is very thankful to be a part of the mental health team at Promise Community Health Center.
As a social worker, Kailee meets with patients and offers assistance in different areas of their daily life. She connects the patients she is seeing with area resources that can help them. Kailee is excited to play a role in Promise’s new mental health campaign, HERE FOR EVERY STEP.
