SIOUX CENTER, IOWA – Alejandra Dueñas always found the receptionists at Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center to be “really nice and willing to help” when she came in as a patient.
Therefore, she’s glad to now have the opportunity to fill that role.
Alejandra Dueñas looks forward to helping people in her new role as a receptionist at Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center. |
Alejandra began serving as a new receptionist at Promise last week.
“I’ve always been the type of person that likes to help out when I can, so I think this position will be a great opportunity to do that,” she said.
Alejandra was born in Chico, CA, but lived most of her life in Hull. She graduated from Boyden-Hull High School in 2012. Before starting at Promise, she worked previously at Natural Food Holdings in Sioux Center and Dakota Treats in Hawarden.
She is excited to be part of a “great organization.”
“I think Promise is a great organization because they provide a lot of resources and opportunities for people who need help with health, dental and vision,” she said. “It is also great that they take the time to explain things to the patients regarding bills, insurance, etc., and helping them if they don’t understand the paperwork. Everyone here is really nice, and it makes patients more comfortable when they come in. Overall, Promise is very welcoming with the workers and the patients.”
Alejandra said she will be able to provide help to both English- and Spanish-speaking patients.
“Since I am bilingual, I think it helps a lot in this community, and it gives the patients more confidence to know there is someone that will help them out and they don’t have to necessarily wait for an interpreter to come to the reception,” she said. “I think this is a main reason why Hispanics especially like to come to Promise because they know there is help all around and throughout the clinic.”
Promise Community Health Center, headquartered in Sioux Center, is the only Federally Qualified Health Center in the far northwest corner of Iowa. Promise provides medical, prenatal, dental, vision and behavioral health services. To learn more, visit www.promisechc.org and watch this video.
