Promise Community Health Center is excited to welcome our new Dentist, Dr. Catalina Uribe Schmit to our team!
Originally from Le Mars, Iowa, Catalina’s journey in dentistry has been shaped by her dedication to service, her love for healthcare, and her desire to positively impact her community. As she prepares to embark on her professional career at Promise Community Health Center, she reflects on her experiences, aspirations, and the excitement of returning close to home.
She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and then continued her education at the The University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics. Alongside her educational pursuits, Catalina found joy and a team atmosphere in extracurricular activities, mainly sand and court volleyball. A proud Hawkeye fan, she cherished the exciting atmosphere of football games and women’s basketball matches.
Throughout her dental education, Catalina honed her skills and expertise in dentistry, including restorative procedures, extractions, esthetic work, and comprehensive care. She did this through her volunteer work at a free dental clinic in Cedar Rapids and by spending five weeks in Storm Lake, providing dental care to many patients. Her passion for oral health and the ability to work with her hands fueled her decision to pursue dentistry—a field that not only allows her to serve and educate others, but also provides the opportunity to help the community improve their oral health.
With her parents and sister living nearby in Le Mars, she learned about the dentist opening at Promise Community Health Center during her third year of dental school. She was drawn to Promise’s commitment to patient-centered care and welcoming, inclusive atmosphere. She is eager to contribute her skills and expertise to the dedicated dental team.
Being a Dentist at Promise isn’t just a career for Catalina—it’s a calling driven by compassion, dedication, and a genuine desire to improve her community’s oral health and well-being. As she embarks on this new career at Promise Community Health Center, Catalina is excited to take on every opportunity with enthusiasm and positivity!
