In our last mental health services article, we walked through how to become a mental health patient at Promise. Now we will share what you can expect from your first therapy session at Promise and answer some of your questions! Here are some common questions you might have about what your mental health appointment will look like at Promise:
What can I expect during my first mental health appointment at Promise?
If you are already a Promise patient, we will confirm your demographics and insurance information are up to date. We will have you fill out any forms that need updating such as a HIPPA form. From the Mental Health department, we will have an intake packet with:
- Mental Health Services Care Agreement: patient responsibility for appointment cost
- Therapy description of services
- Informed consent for therapy
- Our attendance policy
- A telehealth consent form: in case we ever need to see you over telehealth due to weather, etc.
- If you are a new Promise patient, you will be given some new patient forms from the receptionist in addition to the therapy forms mentioned above.
What’s the difference between doing therapy in person vs. through Telehealth?
- Coming into Promise for your appointment: On the day of your appointment, you will come in through our main doors on the North side of the building and check in with our front desk staff. They will help you get registered and hand you any forms that need to be completed. Once checked in, the therapist you will be seeing will come to the reception area to get you and walk you back to their therapy room.
- Coming into Promise for a telehealth appointment: This option is mostly for patients who have Osiris as their therapist but don’t have a private space in their home for therapy. On the day of your appointment, you will come in through our main doors on the North side of the building and check in with our front desk staff. They will help you get registered and hand you any forms that need to be completed. Once checked in, a staff member will come to the reception area to get you and walk you back to our telehealth room here at Promise. There, they will help you log into Klara or Zoom for your telehealth session.
- Telehealth from home: Once the appointment is scheduled, you will be sent a link to Klara or Zoom. It is a text that has a link to the platform. It will ask for date of birth confirmation to ensure confidentiality for the patients. Once on Klara, there will be an invitation you will use to connect on the day of your appointment.
