Midwives are highly-trained health care professionals who provide many health care options for women. Our Certified Nurse Midwives offer services including fertility counseling, birth control counseling, gynecologic exams, breast exams, prenatal care, home-birth delivery, postpartum care and more. Here at Promise, we are proud to be able to provide multiple options to fit women’s needs and wants throughout their pregnancy journey.
Planned home birth with transfer of care to Sioux Falls midwife
Did you know that our Promise midwives can help you with a prenatal plan that works best for you and your family and fits just what you envision your labor to look like. In the event that the plan needs to change, our midwives work with a hospital provider to make the transition as easy as possible.
Darren and Ashley Wielenga, from Orange City, Iowa, had their daughter Briella Joy on May 1, 2021, at 2:38 pm. Briella weighed 6 lbs 12 oz, and was 20 inches long. The Wielenga family received all their prenatal care from Certified Midwife Kari Ney and OB nurse Kris Tinklenberg here at Promise Community Health Center. The family had a hospital birth at Sanford in Sioux Falls.
Briella Joy was welcomed into the family by older sister Jayla (4) and brother Tatum (2).
What the Wielenga family appreciated the most about their prenatal checkups and labor and delivery was that Kari and Kris were so thoughtful and took their time answering questions but also building that relationship. The family saw each appointment as a “get to” instead of a “have to”.
While their planned home birth did not go as planned, Darren and Ashley were thrilled to have the knowledge and support of Kari and Kris through it all. Darren and Ashley loved that they could check in from the hospital via text with Kari whenever they had questions.

What would you tell other patients considering a home birth?
Home birth allows you to be in control, utilizing the body and signals God gave you to have an amazing birth experience. I felt so empowered and heard through this process.
