Promise Community Health Center is proud to announce that Karen Cox, is the recipient of this year’s Addink Community Service Award, recognizing her outstanding dedication to the Rock Valley community in the wake of the summer flooding.
As a key donations coordinator, Karen has worked tirelessly to ensure that those in need receive essential supplies. She opened her home as a donation hub, collecting and distributing items to families impacted by the disaster. Her selfless commitment to this cause showcases not only her organizational skills but also her compassion for those affected.
Karen’s efforts have made a significant positive impact on the community, addressing both the urgent and everyday needs of flood victims. From clothing and food to personal care items, she has helped countless families rebuild their lives during this challenging time. Her heart of gold shines through in every act of kindness she offers.– Kevin Van Otterloo, Mayor of Rock Valley
In the wake of the devastating floods that left many families grappling with loss, Karen emerged as a beacon of hope and support in her community. While having a central location for receiving and distributing donations was a crucial aspect of her efforts, it was a fraction of the countless contributions she made during this challenging time. Karen became the go-to person for coordinating specific requests and making countless connections to ensure essential items were available to families affected.
Additionally, Karen harnessed the power of social media, reaching out to the community to rally support and gather much-needed supplies. One of her standout initiatives was organizing a tie blanket event. She collected donated materials and brought together volunteers to create cozy blankets for families who had lost all their bedding. The warmth of those blankets represented not just physical comfort, but a sense of care and community spirit during a time of hardship.
The items she cherished donating the most were toys for the children who had lost everything. She knew how crucial it was to bring a spark of joy back into their lives. Witnessing the sheer delight on the faces of those kids when they received new toys was one of the most rewarding aspects of her volunteer work. For Karen, these small acts of kindness made a world of difference, reminding her of the resilience and strength that can flourish even in the darkest of times.
My beds have sheets and pillows. I have rugs and towels. Our shower has a curtain. It is amazing! With your help we have created a home again.– RV Flood Victim
