The Unsung Hero Award from the Iowa PCA celebrates one individual from the whole state of Iowa who has exhibited a remarkable standard of excellence in their endeavors, setting them apart for their noteworthy services and contributions. Candidates eligible for nomination are individuals serving as staff members or volunteers at an Iowa health center, often working behind the scenes without public acknowledgment for their valuable contributions. Nominees showcase a steadfast commitment to the health center’s mission and an unwavering dedication to delivering exceptional service to patients.
In the heart of Promise Community Health Center, an unsung hero works to make a difference in the lives of both patients and colleagues. Kailee Jenness, a dedicated social worker, recently received the Unsung Hero Award from the Iowa PCA for her outstanding contributions to Promise Community Health Center!
Kailee’s journey at Promise spans just over two years, but in that time, she has made a lasting impact on the lives of the people she serves. Her empathy, compassion, and genuine care for her patients set her apart and make her a beacon of hope for those in need.
One instance of Kailee’s selflessness is the story of a patient in need of transportation for a specialist appointment in Sioux Falls, SD—a journey of 1.5 hours each way. Despite facing repeated setbacks with volunteer arrangements falling through, Kailee refused to give up on her patient. Recognizing the urgency and lack of alternatives, she personally drove the patient to the appointment and back, ensuring their well-being and demonstrating an extraordinary level of commitment.
Kailee’s impact extends beyond transportation challenges. In her work with OB patients, she ensures that all prenatal patients have the necessary supplies well before the baby arrives. Additionally, Kailee organizes Promise Community Health Center’s Christmas Adopt a Family program, going above and beyond to connect with families, gather specific wish lists, and personally deliver wrapped gifts during the holiday season. Her dedication to spreading joy and ensuring that families in need experience the joy of the holidays is truly remarkable.
What sets Kailee apart is not just her ability to fulfill specific needs but her determination to find alternative solutions when faced with challenges. She often provides essentials, such as a box of diapers, to offset expenses for patients, allowing them to have funds for appointments or groceries. The depth of her resources and the creativity she employs to make a positive impact on her community are truly astounding. Her patience and encouragement make everyone she interacts with feel valued and supported, fostering a sense of community and connection.
In the eyes of her colleagues at Promise Community Health Center, Kailee is undoubtedly a gem—a shining example of generosity and perseverance. Her commitment to improving the lives of others, coupled with her resourcefulness and genuine care, makes her an invaluable asset to the Promise family.
