Promise CHC has been awarded a Behavioral Health Service Expansion Grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)! This award will enable Promise to significantly expand its mental health and substance use services, addressing a critical and growing need within the community.
Access to quality mental health care remains a pressing issue for many in Sioux County and surrounding areas. Barriers such as the cost of services, a shortage of providers, transportation challenges, language barriers, and societal stigma have made it difficult for some to receive the care they need. With this HRSA grant, Promise will help close the gap in mental health and substance use treatment access and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those it serves.
A portion of the funding will also be dedicated to expanding substance use services, an area of critical importance given the nationwide rise in opioid and substance use disorders. By investing in additional training for the mental health team, Promise will be better equipped to provide care to those struggling with substance use. This aligns with HRSA’s goal to integrate mental health and substance use disorder treatment into primary care, making it easier for patients to access the support they need without facing stigma or logistical hurdles.
Receiving funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration is vital for the continued growth and outreach of our mental health department, allowing us to better serve our community and make a lasting impact. One of Promise’s key goals is to challenge the negative biases affecting individuals struggling with substance abuse. By doing so, we can positively impact their well-being and livelihoods, reinforcing our belief that no one should have to face these battles alone.– Emily Tuschen, CEO
The HRSA award reflects a broader national effort to make behavioral health care more accessible and integrated into primary care services. Promise Community Health Center’s focus on removing barriers, increasing access to bilingual services, and ensuring all patients feel supported is central to our mission. With initiatives made possible with this funding such as cultural competency training and expanded substance use services, Promise is setting a new standard for community health in Sioux County.
